The Franklin Heights Annual Homeowners Meeting and election of officers was held Monday, May 7 in the back yard at 3908 Kathryn Way. The meeting lasted about 1 1/2 hours.
Primary topics of the meeting were the election of officers and some in-depth discussion about the association financial situation.
Shauna Johns and Michelle Janah announced their desire to remain on the board. Dennis Hale announced he would be stepping down. From the community at large, Barbara Moore was nominated as the third member candidate. The community agreed by show hands to accept Shauna, Michelle and Barbara for the new 2012-2013 board. Officer positions will be selected at the next board meeting, date pending.
Shauna Johns-Presiding President over the annual meeting announced that as a result of rising cost, new state laws enacted in 2011, and additional upcoming maintenance costs, that the next board will vote to increase homeowner assessments before the end of the year. The amount of expected increase is yet to be determined, but the board is empowered by the HOA by-laws to increase homeowner assessments up to 10%, without a community vote.
During the Open Forum, a question was asked about the results of the Amendment vote that was introduced at the May 27, 2011 Annual Meeting. Dennis Hale announced that only 25 homeowners voted and of the votes collected, the measure was soundly defeated.
